novelty-rd is an eBay seller of Counterfeit (Fake hacked – false capacity memory) memory cards. Registered in the United States, novelty-rd has been suspended by eBay.
Victims observations:
The micro SD card appears to be 2Gb instead of the 32Gb written on it.
I bought the card $50 from a US seller, thinking it would be safer than in Asia. However, it appears the problem is more “worldwide” than I first thought.
It is possible (but unlikely) that the card is a defective legit card. But I find it suspicious that the seller is no longer registered on Ebay.
I opened a dispute on Paypal and provided the H2testw output as proof of defectiveness.
As a side-note, I must confess that it is the second time I buy a counterfeit micro SD card from Ebay. The first time, I bought it from China for $20 and never got a refund since I didn’t know how to prove my case (and on Paypal the seller always gets the benefit of the doubt). However this time I will do anything possible to get my refund.
Finally, I will buy my next micro SD card from an authorized local seller. I will never buy again that kind of stuff from Ebay.
Thanks for your website, it’s great to have people defending consumers interests online.
SOSFakeFlash: testing results from H2testw confirm it was a 2GB memory card. This victim of novelty-rd has learned a hard lesson is now wiser. If you want to make sure you get the real capacity, buy from a authorized local seller. Whatever you do, do not buy flash memory cards on eBay it is not safe. Until eBay changes listing rules for flash memory cards and holds sellers accountable, it is almost impossible for honest eBay sellers to sell. Too many people to buy the fakes and it is becoming even harder to spot them, you can pay a lot of money for a fake one. Avoid the risk, do not buy flash memory cards on eBay.
