Report A Fake 2008-2010 (April)
The Fake flash memory wars are raging. Especially on eBay!
Please report your fake flash memory seller to us – see below for the information we need. We do not have all sellers of counterfeit and false capacity usb flash drives, mpx players and memory cards on file. Your contribution helps everyone.
Addresses of sellers from your mailing envelopes are very helpful. It helps us to spot fraud rings operating on eBay. Use the search box and type in your sellers id, if there is an article make sure to leave a comment and also your progress in dealing with him.
As of June 2009, SOSFakeFlash announced a zero tolerance policy. One confirmation can lead to an alert against an eBay seller. We need to reduce the number of victims, too many being frauded. Regards, From the Fake Flash Angels at SOSFakeFlash
- It is important you test your item to find it’s true capacity. Read: H2testw 1.4 – Gold Standard In Detecting USB Counterfeit Drives
- Do not assume if you have made a paypal claim and it has been closed that you can not reopen it. Many victims have been forced to do this.
- Do not leave positive feedback in exhange for a refund. You only make the problem worse. It is probably why you bought from the seller in the first place! Read: eBay Victims do not leave positive Feedback or change FB to positive to get refunds! Any seller who tries to make you do this is in violation of eBay rules.
Any company who had been involved directly or indirectly with a transaction involving fake flash memory items is liable and responsible – if they chose not to respond to the situation or take the warnings issued by customers seriously. To ignore the issue is to condone it.
- Reminder eBay see: EBay Ordered to Pay $61 Million in Sale of Counterfeit Goods
- Reminder PayPal: Steele Settlement Website
If you have confirmed that you have a fake (purchased from eBay) and you wanted it entered into the database as evidence so we can post an alert or update counts against a seller we will need the following information from you:
- eBay item number
- eBay Seller id
- Your eBay Buyer id (d0n’t forget this please)
- Your output from H2testw 1.4
- eBay item description title
- Seller address complete if you have it (mailing envelopes, eBay, PayPal). Important to build profile and track multiple id’s
- Seller email address
- A short word of you experience and or thoughts if you like (optional)
Reminder, your eBay Buyer id is NOT published on the internet when you report in to us. eBay fake flash memory seller ids are published on the internet to warn other buyers.
If your seller used private auction listings to hide the listing, or a multiple item buy now listing please send a screen capture of the listing to help us cut down on the investigation time.
To capture your buy now listing is very important if the seller is not on file with us (eBay Fake Memory Seller Lists) , if the seller is suspended you will lose your evidence and so could we.
Send this information directly to sosfakeflashdrive@gmail.com
We will not enter information into the database from a public site without 1-4.
If you are reporting several sellers (it happens) please keep the 1-8 pattern. Easy to understand, the more you save us time the faster we can investigate and enter.
There is no time limit in reporting a seller, you can find a lot of information inside of your paypal account for proof. We have had cases as old as 18 months from purchase being reported. It is why recording in a database is so important.
SOSFakeFlash is very strict about collecting information, data that can be supported and has witnesses to the fake flash memory deed. The alerts and posts we publish – are based on evidence.
The data used used to build the list of fake flash memory sellers on eBay. It is also used to issue summary reports on the problem. Data from victims helped us to produce this report: Global Report – eBay Fake Memory 2008 – 2009 , a two year effort. If anyone wants to dispute with us, we can send them an angry mob of fake flash victims. So if you would like to have your item(s) recorded for the record please send us the information above to: sosfakeflashdrive@gmail.com
It is important to report even if the seller is already on the list or an alert is issued.
It increases the counts and evidence against the seller and for the degree of fraud on eBay too. . We publish the sellers and the current counts in our eBay fake flash sellers list. We also produce statistics and reports from the information you send.
In your feedback please put the calling card of “SOSFakeFlash” + “H2testw“. It helps people to find us and get help. It also unnerves fraudsters as it means their days are now numbered. If you left positive feedback, do a follow up to your original feedback – to let everyone know what you discovered. This makes a difference too. If you have a little time, contact at least 5 other buyers from your fake flash seller to warn them to test. It’s a chain reaction, it helps others, reduces victims and soon brings these fraudulent sellers to the attention of both PayPal and eBay.

I just received this device and it is definitely a FAKE. HD Tach reports the name of the device as “USB2.0 2.50” rather than “Datatraveler.” Many R/W errors.
Seller is “williamags” from Kapolei, HI.

Hi JMG
innovico_surplus is known as a discount usb flash drive seller, usually selling lower grade usb flash drives at extremely reasonable prices (due to chips having a lower final format from bad sector lock outs). He has not been known to sell false capacity until now.
What does this seller have to say about this? This is very important. In the interim his nomination post has been withdrawn and also he has been revoked on the safe ebay seller list effective immediately.
This is a sad day. Sellers must verify their merchandise.

Many Emails through my private email address he did not email through ebay. After selling all his mp3 players he then closed his ebay account blaming ebay for the problum as below from email
Dear sir/madam,
sorry for any inconveniences.
I feel sorry my ebay have something wrong now, but pls don’t worry ,I already contacted with ebay and upload all files,I believe this will be resolved quickly. we shipped your item on 24 June,it usually takes 7-15 business days(not including saturday and sunday) to reach you.
pls kindly be patient
hope you will get soon
thank you for your understanding in advances.
pls feel free to contact with me
have a nice day
The site was down for about a month so I could not leave feedback, as I guess many other people could not also.
The shop is back on line now so I could leave feed back, I left negitive feedback and his reply was to refund money if I changed it to positive his email was,
dear sir/madam,
I am stilling waiting for your answer
I can refund you if you can help me to revise it?
pls feel free to contact with me
I will try my best to help u
have a nice day
my reply was,
NOW YOU ARE TRYING TO BRIBE ME GO AND GET #*%$ED IT JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW UNSCRUPULOUS YOU ARE AND HOW LOW YOU WILL GO
I had many emails with him and also opened a paypal dispute he did offer to replace or refund if I sent back, I did not, because of the return postage costs $8.00 so I am out of pocket even more, and he would have player back to sell again. NO WAY.
My thoughts are that he sells cheap items eg:ds pens etc, to build up rating and then slips in counterfit items when all sold and befor shipping all of them, (note the sales are many items over a short time) he then closes shop, when its all quit he reopens with a high rating, meaning Ebays rating system does not help all that well, his rating was 98.7% and is even higher now over 99% after sellind a lot of mp3 players………

Hi Shylesh,
There is no 80GB pen stick. The 40GB and 80GB fakes seem to appear alot in Asia, especially in India.
The HP tool is useful, but it generally can not correct the controller chip. It seems to reset the flash chip, but does not clear the reprogramming of the usb flash chip controller.
You should move off any precious information you can from the usb flash drive to a safe location. Then go to the fixfakeflash site and read up on vid and pid. You need to try and identify the flash chip vendor. Then to if there is no available solution, off to the russian site to hunt for a download.
If you have very gentle fingers, you might consider taking the usb flash drive apart. You would look for the little square chip (flash chip vendor) and write down all the serial information, then do the same thing for the long black chip (this is the flash storage chip), again the serial information is important. It may tell you who the manufacturer of the storage chip is and you could try to verify it’s true size.
The H2testw 1.4 is very important as it will give you a good indication of what your penstick really is in size.
Armed with the information about the vendor chip family you can begin to look for a low level reformatting software to correct and return the usb flash drive to it’s real size. This is the only sure way to fix it. The HP Tools are good, but they usually can not reset the fake reprogramming that was performed on the vendor usb controller chip.
Take care with low level format programmes. You need to use the right one. Flash chips do not like being repeatedly reformatted. It is normally only done once in a flash chip’s life time.
Good luck on your quest, let us know how it turns out. It can be a challenge but fun too.
PS Your 80GB wouldn’t happen to be a Kingston Datatraveler by any chance, would it?

Hi rydangel,
We know about affordablehighqualityitems. Either he is running a charity or something else. We will be inviting buyers soon, to test and share their buying experience. It will be interesting to learn if we have an eBay seller determined to lose money by providing merchandise at below costs for flash nand chips.
It would be interesting to see what testing reveals. Not sure if these usb pensticks are easy to open and photograph. Besides the usual testing, the truth is usually inside a usb penstick. The chips tell all.

Hi Ernie,
chaogestore88 does not quality as a victim seller, the first report came in in June, 2009. He is still selling. The rainbow one is not in our database, but it will be shortly. A true victim seller would pull his listings immediately and begin testing his stock. Then if honourable go about the very difficult and unpleasant task of contracting buyers, explaining and refunding. If less honourable, run like hell. If people report to a seller and the seller continues, it speaks for itself.
There are definately eBay sellers who are victims. Many have purchased from those wholesaler sites in the orient, these are eBay sellers NOT BASED IN THE ORIENT. Those in the orient know what they are doing in 95% of the cases. The recent study of ours published by fake flash news pretty much sums it up and what is going on with those id’s.
The sad part is that small sellers caught with fake flash now have to receive the same treatment as the big sellers. There is a zero tolerance policy in effect. We did not like having to impliment it. Our data and work for the last 19 to 20 months indicates that the problem is growing. It is not decreasing. There was no choice. While it is true that most fake flash sellers are based in the orient (you can see from the categories), it is unfair to single out only sellers in the Orient. That would be discrimation. The same rules and treatment have to apply to all sellers caught.
However…
We ask readers to look through eBay listings for items that appear suspect and ask sellers to test their items to determine if the capacity is genuine. This has been going on from the begining. We need more help. It is best if people concentrate on sellers in their home countries or near by. It has helped many to bow out gracefully and avoid getting caught up in the fake flash wars.
Look for sellers with decent scores and those who have just started to list such items. Give them a break, contact them. Ask if they have verified their merchandise. Let them know SOSFakeflash exists. The FlashDriveFacts site is used by a lot of potential sellers. The reference catologue of fakes has stopped a lot of ebay members from getting into this market, as they learn the awful truth.
We don’t want to see them end up in an alert or on the fake flash sellers list. It is a sellers duty to understand what he is selling and to inspect and verify that what he is selling does deliver the capacity he/she advertises.
If people contact sellers outside of the orient and warn them – it is proactive. A lot stop listing immediately. Those a little more stubborn, once they learn about the FrankenFlash Project, the sites and their potential fate become more inclined to test and get out quick. The few who remain, ignore and will not test often find themselves immortalized on the internet.
For eBay sellers In the Orient
Please. Please. Pretty Please?
DO NOT FALL FOR ANY CROCIDILE TEARS, OF MY SUPPLIER CHEATED ME. I AM A VICTIM TOO! SOB. SOB.
We have been monitoring and studying them for a little too long. 95% to 97% know exactly what they are doing. Their objective is to bond with you, to get your sympathy. Anything to stop you putting a neg. They know once neg’s begin, their days are numbered and they will have to crack open a new id to continue.
If people wonder why there are so many id’s for fake flash sellers in the orient, the sad truth is, it is the same seller. With a fleet of id’s. All in various stages of their lifespan. It is an assembly line. FakeFlashNew’s recent feature gives concrete recent examples.

1. Ebay item no. – 250481940364 [bought 19/08/2009]
2. Ebay seller ID – mykay168

7. I tested the memory as soon as I got it and raised a PayPal dispute
immediately – ref. PP-779-722-277
I went straight to a PayPal dispute (no emails to the seller first) on the grounds that the card was a counterfeit, telling them this;
"The memory card supplied is a counterfeit. It is actually a 2GB SD card which has been reprogrammed to falsely report its capacity as 16GB (which is what it was sold as and is described as on the label).
Here is the H2testw report for the card;
[H2testw report pasted in as above]
I require an immediate refund of the money paid.
N.B. – please do not request that I post this item anywhere, it is illegal in the UK to send counterfeit goods through the postal service.
Further information on this seller's previous history of supplying counterfeit memory cards can be found on his profile at https://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/2009/07/01/ebay-fake-flash-sellers-list-200907-fake-mp-players-memory-sticks-and-memory-cards/"
The next morning the seller had refunded my money and the dispute was closed in my favour.
The seller left this message;
"hi
sorry for coming to this.
to make the problem an end,we refund you full with no item back.
please confirm the money and accept our apology.
hope we both will have a happy ending.
regards"
mykay168 is a power seller with 1822 feedback since they registered on 17/3/09, they have no items for sale on Ebay now. Hmmmm….
Hope that helps someone.

We need to get the word out to the buyers from this ebay seller from hong kong mr.sixty7_onlineshop, he has been selling a lot of these drives. If you can refer them back to OBIETEN feedback, there is information there and creditability. It may make it a little more believable if they can see some of the comments and items that were sold, including counterfeits. On my information listing my email address is there and I can quickly send them the information and test software information. Takes about 5 seconds. I tried to contact them and ebay has told me that I have reached my daily limit, and the day hasn’t even started yet.

6.Seller address (complete) if you have it. Important to build profile and track multiple id’s
Seller sent me email to remind a new address, just 2 minutes later when I open a case from Paypal.
please ship it back to the following address for systore_seller :
Ms. Lam Ming Chu
Room 1316 Sin Sam House, Lung Hang Estate, Shatin, Hong Kong
the address on paypal is not correct.
7.A short word of you experience and or thoughts if you like (optional)
Disputed to paypal and seller asked to return the items then refund. Paypal noticed me as follow:
Return the item to the seller, at the following address: Room 25C, Liang Ga Bldg, 296 Des Voeux Rd WSai Ying Pun, HK Hong Kong. Once you have returned the item, please log in to your PayPal account within 10 calendar days of receipt of this email and provide tracking information that can be verified online.
Two munites later, seller sent me an email to ask me return items to the new address.
I went to Canada Post to inquire the shipping fee to the new address, I was told if I ship with a Tracking Number, I must pay CAD$56. That rediculous!
I email to Paypal to ask can I return items by a regular parcel. There was no response from Paypal. I called Paypal 6 days later. An agent heard my complaint and asked permition from supervisor, then I got refund to my credit. Unfortunately, there were 3 items in 2 case, I was only asked one case id, there is no refund for the last one item. I called Paypal again, the agent named Dave told me pay $56 to return or cancel my case to keep that fake card. I called again, agent Monica told me the same as agent Dave. I said “Thank you” and thrown the phone.
This is my story. I have no idea, Why this seller is still alive on eBay and so many buyer left positive feedback.

Beware of bestelecusa, on EBay, whom I purchased a 16 gb flash drive for $15.59. I tested it and it was defective; would hold 2 – 4 Gbytes. I complained to EBay and got a refund. Unfortunately the other 32 EBay buyers probably also got junk. I asked a few to see if it was just me. One said I must have just got a bad one and that they had stored 532 songs and still had 60% free space. But I mentioned that didn’t sound right, that they sould have more than 60% still free? I’m still not sure if others spoke up?

Did you report in using the Report a Fake Tab? To issue an alert we need you to do this. There is a zero tolerance policy now in effect, there are just too many victims. Our experience with fake flash sellers (20+ months) shows that it only takes one confirmed report. A 16GB flash drive can not be sold for $15.59. The cost of the memory chips alone exceed this price. Please report in Steven so we can issue an alert.

To Gary,
Your report was not removed. Everyone who submits a comment sees what the comment will look like. You will also see that “Your Comment is waiting moderation…” in a lot of cases. The reason for “moderation” is to protect this site from attacks. SOSFakeFlash is trying to address a serious issue and it is NOT popular with many.
So we ask everyone to be patient when submitting a comment. Members of SOSFakeFlash team are on rotation to assist moderation. The best way to find out when your comment appears is to subscribe to the RSS Feed for comments.
PS. To have an alert on the seller a person must send the information to the email address – otherwise we do not raise an investigation. Incomplete information ends up in a “need more details basket” and we rarely have time to look at it.

Further to my report earlier I have pasted the reply I got from the seller. Which makes no sense to me as the item is still running, and OEM? What do you advise on returning the drives, I dont trust them and to send it back registered would cost nearly the same as a drive any way! I hate fraudsters! At least we have the address now.
The reply:
The item is an OEM product and I only learnt the situation lately. Therefore, I closed the listing about 10 days ago. I am willing to let you have a full refund. Please return the drives to me to the undermentioned address:
Flat C, 3/F. Block 10
80 Tsuen King Circuit
Tsuen King Garden
Tsuen Wan, N.T.
Hong Kong
Upon receipt of the returned drives, I’ll ask Paypal to refund in full to you.
Sorry for all the inconvenience.

Upon discussing the issue with him, he issued a full refund without requiring the drive to be returned, asking only for positive feedback instead.

To Pseudolus
Please reprot to us with details. Use the report a fake tabl. Otherwise we can not issue an alert on the internet to warn people.
Asking for positive feeback is against eBay policy! Send us the details. The emails. Please also forward to eBay immediately!
eBay seller fiveway_powers has definately made his/her guilt clear. Unfortunately we can not alert consumers without your assistence. We have rules. We don’t like them. People trust our information concerning sellers, so it is important you report in.
To everyone
If you are a victim, you probably wonder why? Why was the seller’s feedback score so high? Pseudolus report is not unusual. It happens all the time!
When buyers give in, sell out, by leaving positive for a rerfund, you become the NEXT VICTIM!
Use the tool: http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs
type in the seller’s ebay id. If you see revised feedback, start worrying!
Ask yourself a few questions:
How do you like being a victim?
Do you wish others left negative feedback so you would have been more careful?
Do you want others to experience what you are now facing?
If you answer, No, Yes and NO!
Fight back!
This site exists because eBay members chose to fight. They gave up “refunds” because they cared more about YOU then the money they lost.
Everyone must act according to their conscience. Decide where you want to be.

**** PAYPAL WILL NOT ISSUES REFUNDS UNLESS YOU HAVE PROVE THAT YOUR FLASH DRIVE IS FAKE ****
IE YOU NEED TO GET PCWORLD OR SIMILAR TO CHECK IT… AND THEN YOU HAVE TO SIGN AN DOCUMENT TO SAY YOU WILL DESTROY THE UNIT.
KittyFireFlash said
To Jay and Everyone,
It depends. Not everyone gets the same treatment at paypal. That is part of the problem.
If you have been selected for the “Give Me Proof” treatment you do not need to contact PC World. If they received all the fake memory items purchased on eBay they wouldn’t be able to get into their mail room or offices, too many sacks of fakes piled high.
Please read this article
PayPal Refunds Victim Of Fake – False Capacity USB Flash Drives Purchased On Ebay. 8 Month Battle Leads To Success.
You will see how “Superman” dealt with the paypal issues and his many eBay fake flash sellers.
As for signing and faxing in a document confirming that you have “destroyed” the item, it is correct. It is also perfectly fine. It is a dangerous item. You just need a hammer. You can also photograph the destruction for your records and to send along to them if you wish. Destroying it does not mean you can’t hang on to the bits and pieces in case they try to pull a fast one. We have not heard of anyone who was not refunded when they signed and returned the document. We keep stressing how dangerous these items are. So if paypal demands you destroy as a condition of refund, use the hammer, but keep the evidence and as a reminder of a very painful lesson learned.
