alldays189 ( 110) an Ebay seller has sold 429 64G 64GB Data Traveler 200 DT200 USB U Flash Drive 64GB and 128GB flash drives. alldays189 no longer has items listed on Ebay.

Unfortunately for me, I discovered this site too late.
Testing my 64GB drive with H2testw revealed
The media is likely to be defective.
    1.8 GByte OK (3912960 sectors)
In an email from the seller, he stated it was a 4GB upgrade. ?? I had no idea what that meant, but I bought it anyway.
I did not bother trying to recover the usable memory and considered my $24.00 lost.
An attempt by PayPal to recover the money is fruitless. They want third party proof it is a fake. The shell and circuit board probably are genuine, so how do you prove a fake except by testing.

As a guess, I would say all the USB flash drives sold on Ebay from China are fakes.

“Upgrade” is a polite term for a fake.

It means the flash memory chip, in your case, 4GB has been upgraded (reprogrammed) to “appear” to be 64GB. This is done with special software that changes information on the chip, to falsely report to operating systems a size it is not – 64GB for your flash drive.

Certain flash drive controller chips have flaws easily manipulated with the right tools. You will notice at the InspectorTech’s site (hospital) there are not a lot of articles. It is because the same usb controller families are involved, repeatedly.

About 99% of usb flash drives sold on eBay are fakes. 1% are real capacity. The majority of honest capacity usb flash drive sellers have stopped selling on eBay. They can not compete. The fake flash eBay sellers are offering and selling below the actual costs of the chip size they advertise.

eBay buyers do not know anything about the costs of flash memory chips and this is taken advantage of.

Generally when buyers test and report the actual size and it is compared against the cost of the actual size, eBay members got what they paid for – size wise. They are only paying a small premium for the opportunity to own a fake – reprogramming does require additional effort in labour.

It appears alldays189 is an honest fake flash seller. He stated it was an “upgrade”. Only most people have no idea what that means. People in the business do. There are two menus’s fabs offer. The real capacity item list, the upgrade capacity list.

Importers need to specify which list they want to buy from. Obviously the upgrade list is about 1/6 the price but then the real capacity is about 1/6 of what is advertised.

We have had several importers, choose the wrong list – because it was much cheaper. They learned what upgraded meant. It almost cost a few their reputation and business.
