sylvan_company Ebay Fake Flash Seller Alert – United States

sylvan_company is an eBay seller of Counterfeit (Fake – false capacity) memory cards . Approximately 170+ were sold. Registered in the United States, sylvan_company also sold usb flash drives.

A victim reported:

They immediately refunded my PayPal when I notified them with H2testw results on 9/22. Here is their explanation.

Please accept our sincere apologies. We do not test these and they come pre-packaged where we only apply the shipping label. The owner of our company is addressing this issue personally.

Not known is whether eBay seller sylvan_company has issued a recall – contacting all buyers to warn them of the false capacity of the memory card, refunded in full with shipping and handling and apologized.

All eBay sellers for flash memory products need to test their merchandise prior to offering for sale on eBay, to make sure the items have the stated storage capacity. Spot checks on new incoming shipments need to be routinely performed to guard against receiving false capacity items from their suppliers. Failure to do so, can lead to data loss for buyers!

Testing revealed a storage capacity of 4GB for the 16GB flash memory card. Moreover, there is evidence in feedback of the memory card not working in early August 2009. sylvan_company also has a lot of “revised feedback”. A bad sign. There are up to 170+ eBay victims out there.

The models sold under the eBay seller sylvan_company confirmed as Counterfeit, recorded with eBayer ID and eBay Item Number – Standard Procedure. Presented as listed at auction. Counterfeit items tied to criminal activity enjoy no protection. If you bought one of these items from sylvan_company, you should test immediately with the software H2testw 1.4 . Do not store any important information until you can confirm you have the advertised capacity (minus formatting overhead).

Should your device not report the true advertised capacity:

1. Immediately attempt to move any data you have stored on it to another source. Be advised if you have stored more than the reported size from H2testw 1.4, you will not be able to recover it all – you can expect to see errors in the copy back.
2. Immediately report to eBay and PayPal to add your voice against this seller.

If the eBay Item number has disappeared from your won list. Please go to PayPal and search through your transactions for the approximate time frame of your purchase.
