I keep seeing those Hello Kitty flash-drives popping up in the “also sold” portion in warnings here lately. I can’t help but suspect that they may not be officially licensed (I’ve also seen them on sites where some other items sold don’t appear to be officially-licensed either). The only Hello Kitty flash-drive listed on Sanrio’s website ( http://www.sanrio.com/ ) is nothing like these.
I’m just curious: Have any of those in particular been confirmed fake? If so, are Sanrio aware that fake flash media featuring their characters is being peddled? I can only imagine that they, like the well-known storage brands such as Kingston and so on, wouldn’t be happy about it…

Yes, Kitty does come up a lot. In the database, Kitty is not always listed as a Kitty.
We don’t have the time at the moment to search every image on file to see if it is a kitty usb flash drive. Unfortunately counterfeiting brand names in China is “Normal”. Often they dare to describe the items as “OEM” for a brand name, that is how they fool people who import. People actually accept and believe this!
Anyway here are some Kitty’s with very sharp claws in the database:

That satisfies my curiousity nicely – thankyou very much. 🙂
Would you guys mind if I shot an e-mail off to Sanrio regarding this, and pointed them here? (Would it actually be of any help? I’ve been looking for more to do, regarding raising awareness of fake flash – I don’t have an eBay account, I mostly tend to warn people on websites I attend.)

Hi The_Flash,
Please do send an email off to Sanrio. The Knock Off kitties, are not positive to their brand name’s image. There is a lot of kitty merchandise being sold on eBay. The flash drive kitties are almost all false capacity too – lethal. Not one has clocked in at over 2GB so far.
We appreciate your help, very much.
Raising awareness at websites and forums about the problem is important.
Everyone
We also need people to write short articles at other websites about the issue in other languages besides English and let people know that our sites exist with lots of current information. In the past few months some information has been written in: Thai, Japanese, Arabic and Hebrew and Portuguese at some websites.
People can send others here with a url translation in google to the sites or to the articles we have written (though machine translation is a little odd).
The problem is not only on eBay, it is everywhere.
Once again The_Flash, we thank you for helping to raise awareness. This is one of the MOST IMPORTANT ways to help.

Hi InspectorTech!
I’ve just sent an e-mail to Sanrio now – I’ll let you know what they say if/when they get back to me.
Also; I’m glad to be of help with raising awareness. I’ve never fallen into the fake-flash-pit, as you guys sometimes call it, thanks to folks who published internet warnings in years gone by – it’s only right to return the favour and warn others. Many thanks for providing an excellent resource so that I can do just that.
