here’s the email i’ve been trying to send ebayers which wont fit in the message box, so i’ve redirected them here:

    Hello mate

firstly this isn’t spam, i’m emailing you to advise i am 99.9% sure you have bought a fake usb 64gb pen drive from asperou1974, Please read below which will explain why. I am emailing others to have this scam brought to the attention of ebay. I would suggest that as this guy has already sold 200 of these players that this is a fairly major fraud. Here’s an explanation as to how you have been fleeced. I first became suspicious as I was unable to format my drive properly to fat32 or ntfs using windows or external programmes. I then carried out an experiment copying an entire 1980’s series called ‘Dark Skies’ which is 7.59gb spanning 20 episodes. This should fit no problem right? as its supposed to be 64gb, it copies ok suggesting the drive is fine, however around about episode 11 onwards wont play from the stick on my pc however the first 10 episodes will (all 20 do play fine on my pc otherwise). The 10 episode are 3.7gb suggesting the real capacity of the memory stick was about 4gb’s. I used a programme called H2TESTW which carried out a full ‘write and verify process’ and indeed confirmed that 60gb of the usb drive is bogus and 4gb is real usable memory. The process is explained on this website and specifically in the paragraph cut and pasted below:

    http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-37343-64gb-pendrive-file-disappears:-

“What they have done is, they take normal 256mb pen drives, they flash them and make the size show as 32 GB (64gb in your instance) or whatever.Thats what used to happen before, but now these fakes have become even more technologically advanced. Now your pen drive will store 32 GB (64gb), but it can never be copied back on to your computer or if it can be, the data is corrupted. Since it never stored the files, it merely stored the headers”.

The reason no-one else has cottoned on to ‘asperou1974’ is because most ‘joe public’ will just load a few files on and see it works and be chuffed, then leave good feedback before discovering somwhere down the line that a lot of the stuff they store on the device just doesn’t seem to work and will probably dismiss it as faulty rather than fake. However people who are a more on the ‘computer geek’ side of the fence like me 🙂 will ultimately discover that its a fraud, a quick check of the net will reveal this. I am concerned about how many people are being done. I know its only £18-£20 but to me its the principal of the matter. Try the programme H2TESTW for free and you will see that your’s is fake. I reported the scam to Ebay (awaiting the result) and the website below who have published it as an article, please email some others and make them aware, it’s only fair

    regards,

    Neil

The ebay message box has a character limitation. In composing a message use notepad. See if it fits, if not trim until it does.

The best thing to do is keep it short.

Hello, I bought a xx GB from seller XYZ. Mine is not xx GB. I tested with H2testw and found it was only zz GB! Please test and let me know what your real size is. You could risk losing your files. Etc….

It is important to state facts, avoid emotions and untick the hiding of your email address. You can if you like put in sosfakeflash, but people should never code in full web url addresses for an ebay message.

If a person is warning buyers for a seller they did not buy from the message is a little different. Everyone who warns does it differently.

Trying to get everything you want to say into that little message box is not always easy.

Neil’s message is a good one for this alert! In fact all people have to do is warn about testing the size and to say google “asperou1974”. They will be here shortly. 🙂

    Kudos to you Neil!

You demonstrate the noble spirit of eBay victims! People like you make the difference.

Success or failure of SOSFakeFlash depends on victims choosing to fight back and to help other victims.

Readers, where do you stand? When you find this site and use the information, do you contribute? Contact a few members for your seller and warn them to test? Or do you bargain with your fake flash memory seller and change your feedback to positive?

    Are you man/women or mouse?

If you are shocked and horrified that you became a victim, do something like Neil is doing – save other buyers from data loss. March to Paypal, fight for your money back and do not let ebay, paypal or fake flash memory seller get away with it. If you left positive feedback, do follow up feedback to leave the truth about the seller – make a permanent record!
