Posted by KittyFireFlash on February 16, 2009
Who are the eBay sellers that sell genuine capacity MP Players, Memory Cards and USB Flash drives? This is a question many victims ask. So we asked people to tell us who is safe, see Did You Manage To Buy A Real USB Flash Drive – MP Player – Memory Card On eBay Or The Internet? Here is the list current as of 20090523
Ebay Genuine Sellers – USB Flash Drives – MP Players – Memory Cards
To use this list, click on the seller’s name. It will take you to the seller’s “My EBay”.
- Then select select “Items for sale” to see what the seller is currently listing. The listings will tell you where they will ship to.
- You can also check the seller’s feedback. Note: There is only one criteria that matters. Is the item “true advertised capacity” or not?
The FrankenFlash Project receives no referral fees or donations from eBay Sellers. If a seller is nominated, it is by the sellers own merit. This service of nominating true eBay sellers is provided at the request of eBay members desperate to find genuine sellers for true advertised capacity flash devices.

The FrankenFlash Project reserves the right to remove sellers on this list at anytime if they no longer meet the criteria of selling true capacity items – at fair market value. Note also that prices change a lot and sellers must try to recover what they paid for the items at the very least. What matters most? That the item you buy is TRUE CAPACITY and safe to use!

Just a note about innovico_surplus – The drives supplied are not always marked as Exigo as shown in the picture. However, both those that are and those that are plain white test as genuine. They are not the absolutely highest quality drives on the market (the overhead is slightly higher than some – you only have 3.72GB usable space on the 4GB model and 14.9GB on the 16GB) but they nevertheless seem good value for the price.

Only 3 sellers are safe on ebay? I don’t belive it!

Hi Chuck, I have bought from 2 other ebayers who sold genuine drives but they only sold for a short period. One was a supplier clearing out old stock so once the stock was gone listings ended. Another was a local lad in my town trying to start it as a business but he gave up as he wasn’t making a profit. The list is the 3 long-term reliable sellers that we can confirm. There may be others. If you find one let us know!

Thank you for you help, communication with me. In protest since my issues with the fake flash from china last year and with a very dissapointing response from ebay and paypal even though they can see my 100% satisfactio statistics, I have not used them since. I am only 1 person so they probably wont even care. Keep up the good work, Ian

I am selling 100% genuine Peak and Kingston memory at what I call reasonable prices, I have sold Emtec 16gb at €22.99 free P+P, memory has increased by 30% over the last 6 weeks, FACT, I am now selling a Peak 16gb memory pen at €26.99 and 32gb at €54.99 and I sold 2 16gb at the weekend. People are begining to realise that some product on Ebay as I say, ‘if it is too good to be true, it probably is!’

To get on the safe list what does a seller have to do? you don’t have very many on your list.

The e-mail I gave is the correct one, I can see above here it says will not be published but required, where is it supposed be? I have supplied all correct information requested.

I have just received an email to the address I supplied from wordpress.com so I must assume that the e-mail is correct?

I am doing everything myself to fight these fakes, there is now a seller from China who is pretending to be from Ireland selling 16Gb for €15 with free delivery, I can’t prove that they are fake, but if you look up ’16gb flash pen’ and put in country Ireland, you will see them. I have requested 3 times that this seller changes his location to China, to him and to Ebay, but they are still there, no doubt somebody will give a neg soon if they are fake.

Thanks, I was reading the wrong one, it was for Richard, not me, sorry about that.

Sadly I have to report that I recently had two out of four wrist-vault drives from play.com fail testing with h2testw. I have not experienced a problem with this site before – though fakes do get listed by sellers other than the company themselves – so be careful about play trade items!!
I previously bought a large number of 1 and 2 GB Sandisk and a smaller number 4 and 8 GB Sandisk drives from this site. I also bought some 512GB Kingston, some “own brand” 4GB and one 16GB PNY – all but one 4GB sandisk drive (which had not been formatted – so factory error) were fine. Presently awaiting outcome of my returns.
I strongly advise everyone to do what I do – test any flash memory item (whether SD card, MMC card, USB flash drive, media player or whatever) with h2testw immediately it arrives (or if you bought from a retail outlet, as soon as you get home!) There is NO absolutely safe place to buy flash memory!!!!

1 CORSAIR FLASH VOYAGER FLASH DRIVE 8GB
ALL 5 SONY MEMORY STICK PRO DUO MARK TWO 1GB TESTED AS
MAGICGATE: SUPPORTED ON MY PSP
ALL THE FLASH DRIVES PASSED THE H2TESTW TEST WITH FLYING COLORS
IN THE PAST I ALSO GOT A 16 MEMORY CARD AND IT PASSED THE H2TESTW TEST WITH FLYING COLORS TOO
I GOT ALL THESE FROM USER ID: NPS
THIS COMPANY IS A FREIGHT RECOVERY COMPANY AND IS A POWERSELLER WITH A 99.6% POSITIVE FEEDBACK (AS OF SEPT. 16, 2009). THIS COMPANY DOES NOT SELL ALL THE TIME SO YOU HAVE TO WATCH ALL THE TIME AND WHEN THEY HAVE THEM IN..THEN THEY SELL A LOT. THIS COMPANY SELLS A LOT OF STUFF. YOU WILL SAVE THE MOST ON SHIPPING WITH COMBINED SHIPPING AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU REQUEST TO UPDATE TOTAL BEFORE YOU PAY..THEY SHIP UPS. I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I ORDERED THE ONE MEMORY CARD…THEY SHIPED IT IN A BOX AND HAD PADDING IN IT TOO..AND SHIPED IT UPS TO MY HOUSE. (MOST SHIP THESE IN ENVELLOPES I HAVE FOUND FROM PAST EXPERIENCES)ALL MY ORDERS HAVE COME IN BOXES WITH PADDING OF SOME SORT.

Hi Jason,
We will be checking email soon. There are a lot of victims and it is a struggle to keep up. Volenteers. Not easy. We did not get a holiday vacation but worked non stop to investigate, prepare data and issue alerts.
We do need nominations for safe sellers and to have the db grow for them. A new list too.
People should send in nominations with information. As an interim solution, after doing so, people can leave a comment on the following article:
Did You Manage To Buy A Real USB Flash Drive – MP Player – Memory Card On eBay Or The Internet?
There are so many different issues to address, at at the same time. We need to increase the number of people working on the issue – else we will slip.

I’ve bought smaller capacity drives on eBay in the past. I became aware of this site and the problem sometime back, and what I realize after following all of this is that the fake eBay sellers are duping the unsuspecting, yes. And also hurting legitimate sellers, whose genuine offers don’t look like bargains on eBay. Fake drives are so pervasive on eBay that I decided to no longer buy this class of item on eBay, period. I now go to long established trusted sellers on the web – there are many – that sell a full line of products including flash drives. I could name a few, but that might be considered spamming of sorts, but you understand that if you get bad memory from a trusted seller in the U.S., you won’t have any problem recovering your money or getting the item replaced. At this writing, I’m seeing some good buys on genuine USB flash drives: as low as $8.00 for 4GB, $21.00 for 16GB. My advice: don’t overbuy memory just because it looks like a bargain. If you think you will only use 2 or 3 GB, no sense in buying 16 or 32 GB. Besides, what good is any of it if you lose the data?
