Toward A Fake Flash Drive Free World – No More Counterfeits – No More Data Loss

mpp*11226 Ebay Fake Flash Seller Alert – United States

Posted by KittyFireFlash on November 30, 2008

mpp*11226 is an eBay seller of Counterfeit Flash USB drives. Based in the United States, mpp*11226 sold fake 8GB and 16 flash usb drives estimated at over 1,000 units. SOSFakeFlash would like to point out the use of an asterisk “*” in the sellers id, this is often a calling card for a fake flash drive seller, it confuses a lot of search engines especially eBay searching.

If you bought a flash drive from map*11226 you are at risk of data loss. There is nothing “defective” with the drive you purchased. A fake is a pen drive that has been digitally altered. The controller chip has been manipulated to lie about the true capacity of the flash drive so it looks “bigger” than it actually is. The moment you exceed the real capacity you will lose your data.

Please read on to know what to do or if you are a person who assumes that the United States is a safe country to buy flash drives from on their local eBay.

mpp*11226 mainly targeted buyers in the United Status and those from other countries who assume (incorrectly) that the United States is a safe place on eBay to buy flash drives. The drives are usually reprogrammed in the Orient, however they are shipped everywhere. For this reason, there is no safe eBay country to buy from.

The FrankenFlash Project has been studying the issue since May 2008. The conclusion is very basic. Counterfeit, that is digitally antlered flash drives – can be found in ANY eBay country.

There are honest manufacturers of flash devices in China. They are aware of us and are in communication with their trading partners who have been keeping us informed. We have received information that they are frequency approached from people in the USA asking:

I am looking for Factories, who can make false capacity like upgrade! 512mb upgrade to 8gb! It means 512mb true capacity but in computer it shows 8gb! My target price is: $1.50 per unit! I will order 1000units!

for example. When an honest manufacturer refuses, the person simply moves on to the next, until they find one who will do as they ask. The tools used to set up the flash drive (low level format) and flash the controller chip too, can also be used abusively to falsify the true capacity of the flash drive.

SOSFakeFlash is not saying that mpp*11226 did this. We have no idea where or how the seller acquired these false capacity drives. We simply wish to make it clear that you can not assume or should not assume that flash usb drives purchased from USA eBay Sellers are safe. They have fakes as well.
